The Coach House Restaurant

Once a Coach house to the nearby Manor, this hidden restaurant tucked away in the grounds of the Garden Centre has an old world charm all of its own and has been a favourite for  discerning diners for nearly thirty years.

A wide choice of excellent dishes are on the menu with our produce fresh from the market daily. Our fine wine list complements the menu perfectly, and a special two-course menu is available at lunchtimes.

Way back in 1080, William the Conqueror gave the land at Rokesle, as it was then known, to his half-brother, Odo, Bishop of Baieux. He rented this out to a certain Malgerius who assumed the name Malgerius of Rokesdale. At that time, eight knights commanded by William were given the task of defending Dover Castle and Malgerius did his annual twenty-day stint.

To this day, you still enter Dover Castle through the Ruxley gate.

Down the ages, various families have occupied the Manor House. Gregory de Rokesdale became Lord Mayor of the City of London from 1274 to 1285, this being perpetuated in a tablet on the wall of Lloyds Bank in Lombard Street. The present house dates from the 17th Century with later additions, although some of the interior is probably 15th or 16th Century.

To the right of the house is a large Mulberry tree which goes back to between 1610AD and 1615AD, when it was decreed in James 1st time that all landowners should be encouraged to produce silk. However, silkworms only enjoyed white mulberries and, unfortunately, the blue variety was planted.

Today, the Manor House has been converted into a Children’s Day Nursery under the name of Grace’s, she being the last member of the family to live there.

E poi siamo diventati soci e abbiamo iniziato a lavorare al nostro sogno nel cassetto: aprire un ristorante che rispecchiasse in tutto e per tutto le nostre personalità. È così che è nato Accènto: da un’idea un pomeriggio seduti al tavolino del nostro bar che passo dopo passo è diventata realtà. E quanto ci divertiamo!

Gli ingredienti dei nostri piatti vengono da questa terra, Sorrento, e quindi dalla nostra storia. Sono i ricordi della cucina delle nostre famiglie che abbiamo miscelato ai gusti più buoni che abbiamo scoperto in giro. Ci piace la tradizione ma ci piace anche renderla attuale. Ci piace proprio cucinare e proprio come se foste ospiti a casa nostra, aspettiamo con impazienza di vedere l’espressione sul vostro viso quando mangiate uno dei nostri piatti. E sì, solitamente è sempre una bella espressione

Established in 1987, we are an independent, family run traditional Italian restaurant

based at the start of Compstall Road in Romiley, Stockport. Specialising in rustic Italian

home style cooking, open evenings only - 5pm till 10pm everyday except Monday.

Who is the Italian?

Originally from Naples, owner Ferdinando Mercogliano studied at catering schools in Vico Equense and in the centre of Naples before working across Italy and Switzerland, settling in England in the early 80’s.

Our recipes and the ideology behind everything we do and make come from Ferdinando. Many of the dishes we make here today are made the same way that he learnt from his mother and grandmother. Hailing from a part of Naples famous for its pasta making history, cooking is in the Mercogliano family blood.

Now a grandfather, Ferdinando is based both here in Stockport and in Lucca, Tuscany. Sharing his time between Italy and England means Ferdinando guarantees constant fresh and original menu ideas, using the best local and seasonal ingredients. Trusting the day to day running of the kitchen to a carefully selected fantastic team of chefs.

In charge of the restaurant you will find his eldest son Alessandro. A true typical Italian family business!

Ferdinando's deep passion for Italian cooking is infectious and it has truly passed down in the generations of his family. Our heads, hands and hearts are firmly in the kitchen and we are driven to offer customers good food, value for money and a true taste of Italy.

Now well into our 37th year of trading here in Romiley, we are more passionate than ever for what we do. We have recently expanded, and we now have 8 more tables in a new downstairs area. Complete with another bar, facilities and our usual friendly service.

Our philosophy is simplicity, quality, authenticity and big flavours, in a fun and bustling typical southern Italian environment. With us you will always be guests and never customers. Learning and growing day by day, we are truly humbled by your regular custom.

La Piccola Brace da Ré – Martina Franca

La Piccola Brace da Ré è un angolo gastronomico di Martina Franca, dove la carne è protagonista assoluta. Il locale è specializzato in grigliate e tagli selezionati, con un forte richiamo alla tradizione pugliese. L’atmosfera è semplice ma curata, con interni in pietra viva e un tocco rustico che richiama le bracerie autentiche del Sud Italia.

Sui social spiccano piatti ricchi e abbondanti: costate succulente, salsicce, bombette e tagli pregiati, spesso mostrati direttamente sulla griglia o in fase di preparazione. Il locale propone anche tagli da asporto e vetrine ben fornite di carne pronta da cuocere.

L'arte della pizza non è cosa semplice! La morbidezza dell'impasto, l'alta digeribilità, la bontà della farcitura e la cottura giusta sono solo alcune delle caratteristiche di una buona pizza preparata secondo tradizione.
La Corte è ristorante tipico toscano e pizzeria con forno a legna dove potrete deliziare il vostro palato degustando un'ottima cucina, fatta di materie prime, selezionate tra quelle dei migliori produttori locali.
Pizze speciali con prodotti tipici

Nel menù della Pizzeria La Corte troverete un'ampia varietà di pizze preparate con farina classica o con farine speciali come quella integrale, ai nove cereali,al grano saraceno o alla canapa.
Tutte le pizze sono caratterizzate da un impasto leggero e digeribile realizzato con lievito madre naturale e cotte nel tradizionale forno a legna.

Le gustose farciture richiamano l'atmosfera delle terre toscane con prodotti tipici della zona.
Potrete degustare, ad esempio, una deliziosa pizza boscaiola con funghi porcini o una pizza speciale con salame toscano, accompagnate da un'ottima selezione di birre alla spina e birre artigianali.

Primi piatti al gusto di Toscana
Oltre alla zona pizzeria con forno a legna, La Corte dispone di una zona ristorante in cui gli chef preparano quotidianamente antipasti e primi piatti tipici di carne e di pesce.

Se preferite la cucina di terra, potrete ordinare per antipasto degli ottimi crostini maremmani, un tagliere misto di salumi e formaggi toscani o delle classiche donzelle da riempire con prosciutto crudo e stracchino.
Potreteproseguire il vostro pasto con degli squisiti tortelli di porcini, pici cacio e pepe, pici al cinghiale o tortelli maremmani al ragù.

Tra gli antipasti di mare, invece, non dovrete farvi assolutamente scappare l'impepata di cozze ed il polpo con patate, a cui potranno seguire spaghetti allo scoglio o un profumato risotto limonato con gamberetti e pistacchi.
